Trying To Make a New Thing
Realizing Glitch can't meet my needs was sad.
I really wanted Glitch to be my solution for what I wanted to do with a blog, but it just isn't. Mainly because I didn't realize 1) what the Remix button would do, and 2) that there isn't a way to turn it off.
So I spent all afternoon yesterday following this "Migrating to Eleventy" article, and this one about Elevnty plugins. Only to realize after struggling to get a blockquote formatted the way I was seeing them in those places and other examples that in the end that what I want is something less DIY than that. I'm just trying to get up and running. It can become a hobby where I futz with it endlessly later.
To that end, I'm going to clone 11ty/eleventy-base-blog
and use that as the basis.
I've got neocities spun up, I'm going to work on migrating all this over there today.
Combined with the Great Facebook Outage of March 2024, I had the impetus to really try and get my stuff I want off Facebook and into a blog. But after doing one by hand, I'm going to have to try and figure out how to scrape the pages.
I figure I'll use rust
.
I don't want to scrape jillions of pages, so I don't see a reason to sign up for a service. I just want the 120-ish Film Festival posts and their comments. I don't even mind feeding the URLs in one at a time if necessary. (I mean, using a PowerShell script, but still.)

I've found myself annoyed with how Neocities uploads are going. I found this about Digital Ocean, and I might like that better.
